PET Crystal vs Fresnel projector screens for UST: trade-offs explained

Different optical structures

PET Crystal lenticular screens use repeated directional micro-structures that favor projector light arriving from below and suppress light from less useful angles. Fresnel screens use concentric optical structures that can collect and redirect light more tightly toward the viewing area.

Viewing cone is the big lifestyle difference

The PET Crystal Classic lists a 160° viewing angle. Formovie’s current 100-inch Fresnel screen lists 50°. Those numbers are not directly interchangeable test standards, but they illustrate the core layout question: wide social seating versus a more concentrated viewing cone.

Gain can move in the opposite direction

PET Crystal Classic lists 0.6 gain; Formovie lists 1.0 peak gain. A brighter-looking central image can be valuable, but only if your seating lives within the effective viewing cone and the room geometry suits the material.

Choose from your seating plan

If people regularly watch from side seats, broad-view lenticular screens are easier to live with. If viewers sit centered and side-light control is the priority, Fresnel deserves a closer look.

Is Fresnel always brighter?

Not universally, but many Fresnel UST screens publish higher peak gain than low-gain lenticular screens. That brightness is usually more directional.

Is PET Crystal the same as a matte gray screen?

No. PET Crystal is a directional UST-oriented optical surface, not simply a uniform gray diffuse surface.
